12 Months of Self-Care - May Is About Decompressing With CBD Massage Therapy

So today (May 21st) I ended up working from home. I have a recurring conference call for work that can start as early as 6:30 a.m. at times and last over two hours! My boss was on vacation and I had no other pressing meetings so I opted to just work from home.

I thought it would be the perfect day to finally go get a massage. And not just ANY massage…a CBD massage! I can’t remember the last time I had any type of massage. Well, no that’s not true…I’m pretty sure the last time was last October (2018) when I was in Cancun with one of my girlfriends for a girls trip. I don’t quite “remember’ because we were both pretty toasty from spending the entire day at the pool! And perhaps that pool had a swim-up bar. I do remember more than she did though…but even then it’s still pretty foggy!

I’ve had plenty of massages all over the country…and Caribbean. So, I have to admit I was pretty excited about this one. I’ve become a HUGE fan of CBD over a year ago when I started taking it for my fibromyalgia pain. Two words to describe CBD - “Simply Magical!” I never in a million years thought I’d ever take anything close to cannabis! Yet, here I am in my late 40s with my medical card and a decent amount of knowledge on what works for pain management.

I decided to go back to my gem of a local wellness center in Columbia, MD - Journey Within. It’s where I went for “Floatation Therapy” back on New Year’s Eve. I bought a Groupon for a 60-minute massage a couple months ago.

A young lady named Fallon was my massage therapist. She said her mother also has fibromyalgia so she was quite familiar with it and the pain it brings. She was simply wonderful! She was careful and asked me if the pressure was good all throughout the massage. She was also quite knowledgeable about the body - which you’d expect - but once I found out how young she is I was thoroughly impressed. Her knowledge of fibromyalgia and CBD along with her massage technique made me an instant fan. We connected and I told her she was going to be my new best friend and she could never leave the wellness center…or me! She laughed and assured me she was sticking around for a while. Well, I hope so! I likened finding her to finding a good hair stylist…you follow them wherever they go. It’s like a “marriage” and Fallon is now stuck with me!

Any good relationship is built on communication. This one is no different. We communicated with each other throughout the entire hour. She’d ask me what areas I wanted her to concentrate on, how it felt, if anything hurt and then we just “talked” and go to know each other. She’d tell me if or what she “saw” or felt within my body and then attempt to “work it out” to provide relief. She massaged me with regular oil and then rubbed in the CBD directly to areas that needed it. Before you knew it, it was over. I usually like a 90 minute massage for this reason.

I got dressed and met her out front. I told her I would definitely be back soon. I left and met a girlfriend for lunch, then ran a couple errands. I came back home a few hours later and did maybe another hour or so of work. Once I shut down the laptop, I relaxed on the couch watching TV. Next thing you know, I’m feeling super duper relaxed. Oh, I did pop a 1:1 CBD/THC gummy so that mixed with all the CBD from the massage had me feeling extremely “zen” to the point it was hard to keep eyes open. After about an hour of dozing off and on in a “deep” slumber, I got up and went to lay down on my bed. If I’m going to get a good nap in, I need to be comfortable. I normally shut the curtains because I like the total darkness. I normally turn the TV on something with the volume really low to fall asleep to. But, today… I just laid on top of the bed.

Within minutes of laying my head on the pillow and getting into my favorite position, I was knocked out into some of the deepest, loveliest sleep I’ve had. My body was completely relaxed. It felt wonderful! I slept for a solid two hours! I woke up after 9 p.m. and while I’m awake I still feel like I can easily go back to sleep. As with any chronic pain illness and something like a massage or exercise, I wonder IF or how sore I’m going to be afterwards. I am completely sold on CBD massage and need to make it a habit of going regularly!

Journey Within Wellness Center offers floatation therapy, massage, acupuncture, 1:1 yoga therapy and more. I have been on a major #SelfCare journey for the past year. I am seriously considering joining as a member for $60 per month which will get me one treatment per month and discounts on anything after that.
