Baltimore Restaurant Week: The BoatHouse Canton Waterfront Grille
Last week was Baltimore Restaurant Week and I had the opportunity to go to a new spot...for "date night." My date picked the spot and although the weather was terribly frigid out we ended up at a lovely waterfront restaurant and dock bar in downtown Baltimore. The BoatHouse Canton is a contemporary, seafood-focused New American eatery with outdoor seating and dramatic water views. Now, it was nighttime and too dark to enjoy those views, but I was impressed with the restaurant from the time we walked in the door.
Since I used to work for a commercial architecture and interior design firm "once upon a time," I always look at the "feel" of a space. I notice the different materials, accents, details, textures, etc. of a restaurant. This one feels light, airy, and friendly right away. We had 8 p.m. dinner reservations and were warmly greeted right away.
We opted to order off the restaurant week menu which was a 3-course meal for $34 each (before tax and tip). I ordered the Maryland crab soup, regional rockfish, and the winter berry cobbler. My date ordered cream of crab soup, grilled bistro steak, and the gran marnier creme brulee...which he ended up trading for a winter berry cobbler as well. He's not much of sweets or dessert person so he didn't really end up liking either.
The menu even had a little story in it on the boathouse which I tried to take a picture of, but it didn't come out the best. It boasts one of Baltimore's best raw bars and a full selection of healthier, gluten free menu options. It also has live music and entertainment, which combined with the waterfront view, and awesome food combine for a really great time!
All in all, we did enjoy our experience and The BoatHouse Canton and look forward to going back for brunch or another meal in the summer time where we can enjoy the outdoor seating and the beautiful views. The Boathouse Canton is definitely worth a visit!
