Sunday Brunching At Founding Father's


A couple of Sundays ago, my friend and I decided to go to brunch and I got to pick the spot. I usually have no clue and it becomes a back and forth game trying to come up with somewhere to go. That day, however, I had no problem! I've been wanting to go to a Founding Farmer's restaurant for a long while but never seem to get to one of their locations. I had heard that they offer "fresh" American inspired food so I think of high quality, fresh, "good for you" ingredients and offerings.Well, we were about to remedy that! My friend seemed a little skeptical that this place was going to live up to the hype.

Founding Farmers is an American, upscale, casual style restaurant owned by North Dakota Farmers Union and Farmers Restaurant Group. They were founded in 2008 and have four locations: King of Prussia, PA; Washington, DC; Tysons, VA; and Potomac, MD. They are privately owned, headquartered in Kensington, MD and have approximately 1,000 employees. More than 47,000 American family farmers majority own them. OK, let's talk about the fun stuff! We went to the one in Potomac, MD and since I was sure how crowded they'd be I went ahead and make reservations. That was a good idea! The restaurant was full of people and there was a busy hustle & energy to the place.

We sat upstairs and that was crowded too! We typically order mimosas or get a bottle of bubbly and juices when we do brunch. We love a "bottomless mimosa" situation but this Founding Farmers was a 'no go'! A tiny, skinny glass was $13.00 for one mimosa and no refills. So we ditched that idea and opted for an Arnold Palmer (1/2 tea, 1/2 lemonade) and a ginger "scratch soda" that they make in-house. Both were delicious & came with free refills!

For our meals, I ordered a Founding Farmers Breakfast that came with 2 eggs, choice of meat, a side and choice of bread/toast. So, I went with scrambled eggs with cheese, leek hash browns, bacon and wheat toast. My friend ordered one of their pan scrambles with sausage, mushrooms, spinach and had his side of bacon crumbled up in it. He also got a side of toast, but didn't even touch it.

Let me tell you! I've NEVER seen my friend eat SO FAST or be so quiet while he eats! He said it was delicious and he was truly impressed. While I should have said I wanted "crispy" bacon, it was yummy. They gave me honey butter and a homemade pear butter spread for my toast. The leek hash browns were delectable!

I wish I had taken pictures!! I usually do so I must've been distracted by the cool architecture and funky artwork all over the place. BUT....
